Prolong® Technology

Modified Atmosphere System

In Prolong® MAP bags, an effective modified atmosphere conditions are created by both the natural respiration of the product and the gas mixture in the atmosphere surrounding the Prolong® MAP bag. The resulting atmosphere will be composed of optimal Oxygen, Carbon Dioxide and Ethylene gas conditions. Each type of product will continue to survive in an optimal MA atmosphere that preserves freshness, inhibits the growth of pathogens and, as a result, extends product life.

Breathable System

Prolong® packages can breathe at a certain amount of controlled gas exchange rate. The Prolong® MA/MH system controls the carbon dioxide gas levels, prevents the formation of anaerobic conditions (oxygen deficiency) and the accumulation of excessive odor by allowing the oxygen in the environment to spread inside the bag.

Elimination of Aging Hormone (Ethylene)

Fresh fruit and vegetable products produce ethylene gas after harvest. It has been determined that ethylene gas is a very serious aging factor for fresh products. Exposure of certain types of crops to Ethylene accelerates the maturation of the product and then its aging, deterioration and making it more vulnerable to microbial diseases. Prolong® Packaging Technology absorbs the released ethylene gas from the atmosphere and as a result slows down the ripening process, prolonging the life and freshness of the product.

Anti Microbial System

Some Prolong® films contain an antimicrobial factor to disinfect the atmosphere around the fresh product. These special films are used especially for fresh produce that is infected with post-harvest microbial diseases.

Humidity Control

Prolong Packaging Technology controls the humidity level around the product by water vapor absorption or excellent anti-fog properties.
