UVASYS TECHNOLOGY
UVASYS Dual Release These new integral laminated sheets have been developed and trialed over the past seven years and differ radically from the original design. As paper tends to absorb a varying amount of the gas meant for the berries, the sheets have a nonabsorbing material to separate them from the fruit. They emit an initial burst of gas to fumigate the surface of the berries but thereafter they give a lower but very uniform emission rate for longer periods.
UVASYS is easy to use because it does not require (and they should not have) any tissue paper or absorbent sheets either directly above them or between them and the grapes. Advantages of UVASYS
Excellent appearance of stems and berries Reduction of sulphur dioxide damage Very low sulphite residue levels Easier packing resulting in lower labour costs and inventory. Longer shelf life EPA approved Longer protection against Botrytis during extended storage Aesthetic appearance before and after use
Instructions 1. Observe good picking procedures - i.e. pick grapes at lower temperatures. Case when temperatures rises. 2. Observe industry procedures with regards to packing grapes after rains - cease packing for 2 days. 3. Do not allow grapes to stand in the heat. 4. Pack the grapes as soon as possible after picking. 5. The higher the ambient temperature the quicker the stems and fruit dry out. 6. The packhouse temperature should ideally by below 20°C. 7. Use a linear in the grape carton to minimize moisture loss. 8. Place Uvasys sheet on top of the grapes in the carton, shiny printed side up, as per instructions on the sheet. 9. Use the correct size sheet for the size of the carton and the weight of grapes packed. If in doubt, contact us. 10. A Uvasys Dual Release sheet is used if no pre-fumigation with SO2 occurs. 11. If the grapes are to be fumigated with SO2, then use a Uvasys Slow Release sheet. 12. Uvasys is designed to be placed directly onto the tables grapes. However, if desired, a MAM (Moisture Absorbing Membrane) sheet or tissue paper (with specification of <40gsm) may be placing between the grapes and the Uvasys sheet. 13. Close the liner over the Uvasys sheet and seal the carton. This ensures that the Sulphur Dioxide remains in the carton. 14. Place in pre cooler as soon as possibility to minimize decay and loss of moisture. 15. Best storage conditions are at -1°C and 95% Relative Humidity.
